How a Small Act Turns Into the Difference of a Lifetime

As some may know, small actions can make a life-changing impact. This was just the case when one of our neighbors came to our Thrift Store on a mission. Robert came to St. Vinnies in hopes of finding an adapter for his blood pressure monitor, as the one he bought didn’t have one. It was inching closer to 5 pm and the store would be closing soon. As he wasn’t having any luck, Chris, our Processing Foreman, joined in on the search. The two made their way through the store, headed out to the dock and eventually found exactly what Robert needed.

For Chris, this was a typical day on the job, and he didn’t think anything of it until Robert came back to our thrift store about four months later. Robert shared with Chris that he went home and checked his blood pressure that same night, which ended up being at a dangerous level. With that information, he was able to seek the medical attention needed to get his potentially life-threatening blood pressure back to normal. Robert said he was beyond thankful for Chris taking the time that day to help find the missing piece to his blood pressure monitor.

“That made me feel warm inside. It just proves that no matter how busy you are, if you take the time to lend a hand, you never know what that little bit of help can do,” says Chris. We are so glad Robert is okay and came back to share his experience with us. This story is the perfect example of how small acts of kindness create a ripple effect.
