Volunteers - The Lifeblood of St. Vinnies

Spanning from April 16 through the 22, National Volunteer Week is a time to honor volunteers in the community as well as encourage volunteerism as a whole. At St. Vincent de Paul, we wanted to take this dedicated week to share about our volunteers, volunteering at St. Vinnies and the importance of this program.

Importance of St. Vinnies Volunteers

Volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul are the lifeblood of our organization. While we have an incredible team, we deeply value the extra helping hands to further support our operations. Every minute volunteers contribute makes a major impact within the walls of our Thrift Store, which in turn, overflows to our community as we work to help our neighbors in need in Pierce County. It is because of our volunteers that we are able to continue our mission in such a significant capacity.

Why We Love Our Volunteers

Each and every one of our volunteers bring enthusiasm, a unique perspective and positivity to our team, no matter the task at hand. From sorting donations to keeping the Thrift Store tidy, we know we can rely on our volunteers to help us keep St. Vinnies running smoothly. We understand how busy life can be, so we are constantly moved when our volunteers choose to spend a piece of their day with us. Whether it’s a new volunteer or one of our regulars, we greatly admire the time and dedication given to supporting our organization.

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteering at St. Vinnies is rewarding, meaningful and fun! While there are numerous benefits of volunteering at our Thrift Store, here are just a few:

 An Opportunity to Make Connections

The entire St. Vinnies team works to create a friendly environment that makes volunteers feel comfortable and welcomed throughout their volunteer experience. Between our awesome team and other volunteers, it provides an excellent space to experience a sense of community and a chance to make new friends.

A Chance to Gain a Sense of Accomplishment

When volunteering at St. Vinnies, individuals are able to contribute their time and effort to help complete essential everyday activities of our organization. Carrying out these activities and duties can lead to a feeling of purpose.

As an added bonus to the reasons above, our volunteers receive a 20% discount to use in our Tacoma Thrift Store!

How to Become a St. Vinnies Volunteer

Volunteering at St. Vinnies is as easy as 1, 2,3! Here’s what are volunteer in-take process looks like:

  1. All prospective volunteers must complete a volunteer application. This process should take between 10-20 minutes.

  2. Once the application is submitted, a St. Vinnies employee will reach out with information about a background check.

  3. Upon completion of the background check, an orientation will be scheduled if applicable. This in-person orientation will help provide the prospective volunteer with information about our organization, volunteer responsibilities and volunteer roles.

After these three steps are completed, individuals can begin volunteering!
